The first cannabis-dispensing vending machine has opened in Canada.

The machine sells medical marijuana packaged in tightly sealed clear plastic bags at a Vancouver dispensary.

"We put it in the vending machine to cut down on theft and handling," said Chuck Varabioff of the B.C. Pain Society, the dispensary where the machine was installed, according to RT. "It's packaged up and sealed professionally. So you come in, you buy your product, it's fresh, it's quick and easy, and you're out of here in minutes."

Customers with a medical marijuana ID card can choose from a host of strains and flavors that are sold in quantities slightly larger than 3.7 grams.

Varabioff told The Huffington Post B.C. that the B.C. Pain Society offers "high-grade" medical pot at the cash only machine for $50 per half ounce. Plus, "the product stays fresh, and it's easy for the members," he said.

Varabioff added that the machine is strictly for members only.

"Anyone could walk into our dispensary, but we have a 36-inch gate that you can't get by unless you show your ID card," Varabioff said. In addition, the dispensary may also install a card swipe system programmed in the machine.

Varabioff toted the fact that the B.C. Pain Society charges 50 percent less than other dispensaries. "What really sets us apart from every dispensary in town is our prices," he said. "Because we don't just care about money here. I've had a number of people who were sick and dying of cancer. It's nice to see that there's a product that ... at least allows them to be comfortable on their last days."

The B.C. dispensary, which opened back in March, also has a gumball machine that sells single grams of marijuana for either $4 or $6.

Customers can look forward to buying pot-infused coffee in the near future.
