Shakira Gets Criticized By Colombians For Speaking in Spanish Accent
Colombian superstar Shakira is receiving backlash by her fellow Colombians and fans of other Latino nationalities for speaking in a Spanish accent.
The pop singer and activist, who has been living in Barcelona, Spain with partner Gerard Pique since 2011, was spotted in Barranquilla while filming the music video for her new song with fellow Colombian star Carlos Vives.
Fans in Barranquilla followed the two stars around the city and it was during one of these outings that the star was heard speaking in a Spanish accent and it was caught on video.
In the video, a woman can be heard saying "What a Spanish accent" after Shakira speaks. She wasn't the only one who had something to say about it. Some fans took to Twitter to criticize the star.
"Shakira in her own country, in her native city, where she grew up and lived, speaking with a Spanish accent...Ahhh okkkk!!," said one tweet.
Another responded with, "It's sad, the Colombian accent is better than the Spanish one, a lack of identity on her part, the millions don't make you."
