The latest rumor reports around the highly anticipated iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (or Pro) have some wild hardware specs and what could be a big change in screen design for the next generation variants of Apple's iPhone. Here are the latest details.

Release Date

Thanks to Apple's stable iPhone development cycle over the past many years, this one is pretty rock solid, though the devil is in the details. The general sense in the tech press is that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be released in September 2016, which goes along with every iPhone launch in recent memory (besides the unusual iPhone 5se, of course).

The specific release date is a little hazier, but ITPRO is putting it on September 13. This is also not a big stretch of the imagination, but it could be off by a week or two, depending on Apple's supply chain and launch strategy.

Hardware Specs Rumors

There are a bunch of rumors swirling around the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, many of which are fueled by the sense that after the relative disappointment of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus of 2015, Apple is looking to make a bigger splash this year.

The latest big rumor is that the iPhone 7 Plus will have a dual lens rear camera, with possibly the capability of using those two lenses with new image-stitching software to greatly extend the high-quality zooming range into telephoto territory.

Storage and RAM is another factor that may change significantly, if BGR's reporting turns out to be correct.

Specifically, the iPhone 7 Plus, according to rumors picked up from Weibo, may finally have a lot of both: Up to 256GB of storage and 3GB of RAM for the up-sized iPhone 7. The standard 4.7-inch iPhone 7, on the other hand, is still expected to get a boost to 2GB of RAM, but only a max capacity of 128GB.
