Portugal vs. Hungary Euro 2016 Live Stream, Preview, Prediction As Cristiano Ronaldo Looks For Redemption
Portugal look to right past wrongs in a do or die game with Hungary on Wednesday.
Portugal was expected to sweep by Group F without major difficulty. The main reason? The team had not only the best player in the entire group, but arguably in the tournament as well - Cristiano Ronaldo.
And yet Ronaldo has been anything but a curse for the Portuguese. He was far from clinical against Iceland in the team's debut match, though his incendiary comments after the game likely hurt Portugal more than his effort on the pitch.
Those comments made him the ultimate bad guy heading into the game against Austria where his finishing was the main problem for the Iberian side. He failed a crucial penalty in the 79th minute and took 10 shots over the course of the night, scoring nothing.
History has shown that Ronaldo has an ability to overcome such adversity and deliver in the crunch time. He scored big goals in each of the third group games of the Euro 2012 and 2014 World Cup, playing two of his finest performances in a Portuguese outfit. He is likely to try and do the same against Hungary.
The Hungarians are in the drivers' seats with four points, picking up the only win in the entire group thus far. All they really need is a draw to clinch a top two-spot. Portugal needs a win to win the group and avoid an early elimination from a tournament that has lacked a true favorite.
Player to Watch
Who else? Ronaldo has endured tremendous frustration throughout this tournament but history indicates that he will not be shut out. The superstar has scored in six straight international tournaments dating back to the Euro 2004. He will likely be looking to not only atone for his poor finishing in the first two games but also to help his nation get to the next round.
Prediction
Portugal puts it together and wins 2-1.
Schedule and Start Time
The game gets started at 12 p.m. EDT and can be viewed on ESPN or ESPN Deportes. It can also be streamed on ESPN3.
