4th of July in 2016 - Banks, Retailers, Drugstores, Supermarkets: What's Open, Closed on Independence Day?
The July 4th holiday is making for a different kind of day for many in 2016.
Banks (Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citibank, HSBC), financial markets, credit unions and the stock markets will be closed in honor of the federally recognized holiday on Monday. In addition, all government offices, public libraries and superior court branches will also be closed and there will be no mail delivery service.
Retailers Open for Business
As is typically the case, most retail stores will open on Independence Day as store chains look to cash in on merchants hoping to make last minute purchases for various forms of celebrations.
Supermarkets
Walmart and Target will both be open as will such grocery store chains such as Albertson's, Kroger, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. One notable exception is Costco, which will be shuttered all day Monday.
Drugstores
All major drugstores will also be open, among them Walgreens and CVS.
Food & Gas
Most major restaurant chains will also be open on Monday, as will many local movie theatres. Patrons are advised to check company websites for specific schedules and instructions.

Macy's Fireworks Display
As has been the case for the last several decades, the Macy's firework's display in New York City will serve as one of the day's biggest celebration events.
