While Stephen Colbert gets ready to replace David Letterman on "The Late Show," Larry Wilmore is gearing up to take Colbert's Monday through Thursday 11:30 p.m. slot on Comedy Central.

Wilmore is currently known as the "Senior Black Correspondent" on Comedy Central's, "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart."

He is also responsible for the success of many other hit shows including "In Living Color," "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," and "The Jamie Foxx Show." Wilmore also co-created the animated series, "The PJs" with Eddie Murphy and holds the producer and creator titles for Fox's "The Bernie Mac Show."

Though Wilmore will have to move from his current home base in Los Angeles to New York, as Fox News reported, he will still remain in affiliation with Jon Stewart. Stewart's Busboy Productions is reported to be producing the new "Minority Report" show.

"I'm beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart," Wilmore told The Associated Press. "I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Laker T-shirts when I'm layering."

Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless also expressed her excitement for Wilmore's new show in a press release that states, "We're thrilled to be expanding our relationship with Jon Stewart and Busboy Productions and are looking forward to the world getting to know Larry Wilmore even better."

Comedy Central also revealed its plans to use "The Minority Report" as a platform for "underrepresented voices in comedy and media."

As Variety explained, "The selection of the African-American Wilmore breaks up the white-male homogeneity to most of late night TV."

The lack of an African American presence on late night has been highly criticized given the current names that have continued to dominate late night over the years. These names include Jimmy Fallon, who replaced Jay Leno, and now Colbert, who will replace David Letterman.

Aside from Wilmore's "brilliant comic and showrunner" skills as Jon Stewart has pointed out, Wilmore's move to New York for "The Minority Report" seems like a natural progression.

His predecessor, Stephen Colbert was also a "Daily Show" alumnus who was later rewarded with his own show "The Colbert Report."

"The Minority Report" will reportedly air in January 2015. Will you be watching?
