The new Ascend P7 smartphone could change the way we all take selfies.

The Ascend P7 was introduced in Paris, France last Wednesday. Huawei, a China-based smartphone company and the maker of the new Ascend, is third place in ranking, behind Samsung and Apple. The company hopes that with their newest smartphone it could improve its status.

The Ascend P7 is the successor to the P6, but it has been billed as the world's slimmest smartphone, with a 6.5mm thickness, making it slimmer than the iPhone 5S at 7.6mm, and the Galaxy S5 at 8.1mm. It also has a 5-inch 1920x1080 display, 4G LTE networking, a 1.8GHz quad-core processor, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, and a Gorilla Glass 3 housing on both its front and back. The phone runs on Android modified with Huawei's Emotion interface, CNET reported.

Here is the best part for the selfie obssesed. The pixel density is 445 pixels per inch on the Ascend P7, which makes it larger when compared to the iPhone 5S's 326ppi, and 432ppi on the Galaxy S5. The rear-facing camera has a 13-megapixel resolution and higher-end image-processing chip, which can handle low-light circumstances with sensitivity settings that will reach ISO 3600.

Technically speaking, the Ascend 7 has more pixels than the iPhone 5S's 1.2-megapixel secondary camera, and the Samsung Galaxy S5's 2-megapixel secondary camera; but Huawei also has a built in five-lens system for better clarity. With this in mind, Huawei is revolutionizing front-facing camera technology. As a result, the company is now promoting "groufies," group self-portraits, including those that have a panoramic mode.

While the new smartphone could make selfies look better, Huawei's P7 will have to face off against its direct competitors such as the Samsung Galaxy S5, the HTC One M8, the Sony Xperia Z2, as well as the Lumia 1020, and the iPhone 5S.

Unfortunately, as of now, the P7 is only available in 31 markets, excluding the U.S. It can be found in places such as, China, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Malaysia, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, just to name a few, Tech Times reported. Apparently, the U.S. is the toughest market for Huawei to penetrate with its loyal Apple iPhone users. But the company has not counted out America as yet.

The expected retail price of the P7 smartphone is 449 Euros, or $630 USD, without a SIM card, or service contract, according to Reuters. The euro price actually makes the P7 cheaper than iPhone 5S, which starts at 699 euros in Germany and 709 euros in France. Meanwhile, Samsung's Galaxy S5 costs between 600 to 700 euros.

The P7 is expected to come out as early as June. The company aims to sell as many as 10 million phones by early next year.
