Oscar season has begun with many Oscar prognosticators beginning to make predictions based on the upcoming fall festivals. This year many films will be competing for the Best Foreign Language Film category, one of the most unpredictable categories at the Academy Awards. However, not one country has submitted a film. The following is a look at potential submissions based on their international appeal thus far.

1. Germany-Toni Erdmann-Germany's submission is always unpredictable but based on reaction from the Cannes Film Festival, this film is likely to be the country's pick. Sony Pictures Classics is releasing the movie in the U.S and that will be a great asset for the film as Sony has dominated the category for many years.

2. Romania-Graduation - Cristian Mungiu has been one Romania's most important filmmaker's garners some of the most important awards at international film festivals. However, Romania has somehow never been nominated for the Oscars. Mungiu's last film "Beyond the Hills" made the shortlist, which is the farthest Romania has ever made it in the competition.

3. Colombia- Between Land and Sea-Last year Colombia made history garnering its first nomination at the Oscars with "Embrace of the Serpent." The country continues to emerge and this year "Between Land and Sea" won three awards at the Sundance Film Festival making it the most obvious choice for the country.

4. Chile-Neruda-Pablo Larrain had his film "The Club" submitted last year and while it was nominated at the Golden Globes, it failed to obtain the Oscar nomination. However, this year, "Neruda" is not as dark as "The Club" making it more Oscar-friendly. Additionally, it stars Gael Garcia Bernal, which would add star power to the Oscar ceremony.

5. Iran-The Salesman-It would not be a surprise if Asghar Farhadi's latest film was submitted as it won two major awards at Cannes and was later picked up for distribution with Cohen Media Group. Farhadi's past two films were selected to represent Iran and "A Separation" won the Oscar in 2011.
