Hillary Clinton's post conventions lead over Donald Trump has swelled to 10 points, with the Democratic nominee now on the verge of cracking better than 50 percent of the total vote.

A new CNN Poll of Polls survey finds Clinton now topping Trump 49 percent to 39 percent. The numbers are the averages of six major polls conducted after both party conventions ended late last month.

Clinton Holds Advantage When Third-Party Picks Added

When third party candidates Gary Johnson and Jill Stein are included, pollsters found Clinton retains her double-digit advantage at 45 percent to 35 percent, with 9 percent for Johnson and 5 percent for Stein.

A similar poll conducted before either convention was held found Clinton besting Trump just 45 percent to 41 percent.

Since the end of the more recent democratic convention in Philadelphia, most polls have found Clinton increasing her lead over Trump, who has recently been dogged by a stream of self-inflicted controversies that include his public war of words with the family of an Iraq war veteran killed in the line of duty.

In recent history, the candidate found to be leading in the polls after both conventions have concluded has gone on to ascend to the White House.

Clinton's Electoral Voted Edge

A recent Benchmark Politics electoral vote survey also finds Clinton holding a commanding lead over Trump in the all-important race to secure the 270 electoral votes needed to emerge as President Obama's successor.

Pollsters found Clinton besting Trump 349 votes to 189 and winning in such critical states as Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Vermont, New York , Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida and Maine.

This CNN Poll of Polls phone survey was conducted among registered voters between July 29 and August 4. Polls included are the CNN/ORC Poll, the CBS News Poll, the Fox News Poll, the NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll, the Marist/McClatchy Poll and the ABC News/Washington Post Poll.
