This will be coach Pep Guardiola's first major test as coach of the new squad. His first test, a win over Sunderland at home, was not quite as impressive for the team as many had hoped under the legendary coach.

He even courted controversy when he dropped first choice goalkeeper Joe Hart and all indications point to the English keeper getting shipped out of town.

Manchester City managed a semifinal berth a year ago in the Champions League but was marginally defeated by eventual Champions Real Madrid. Guardiola, who got Bayern Munich to the competition's semifinal in each of the three years he was in charge of the German side, is expected to get Manchester City to that stage again this season.
