Chris Brown in Jail: 'Loyal' Star Admits Probation Violation, Sentenced to 131 Days in Jail
Chris Brown has been sentenced to 131 additional days in jail after he admits to violating his probation.
The 24-year-old singer was led into a Los Angeles court by deputies on Friday afternoon, May 9. He confessed that he violated the terms of his probation by getting into an altercation with a fan named Parker Adams in Washington, D.C. last October.
L.A. County Superior Judge James R. Brandlin immediately sentenced Chris Brown to 365 days in county jail, which is the maximum sentence allowed, short of sending him to state prison. However, the judge gave credit for the 234 days, which the singer has already spent in rehab and custody, and ordered him to remain behind bars for 131 more days.
"We're gratified that he was not sentenced to state prison, gratified that he's still on probation," said Mark Geragos, Brown's lawyer. "I think that Chris has learned quite a bit through his experience and I'm anxious to see how he does, as I think everybody else is."
Brandlin also ordered the "Loyal" singer, who has recently been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder, to attend anger management and family counseling sessions, and undergo random drug testing weekly. Once he is released, Brown has to serve 700 hours of community labor at a rate of at least three days per week, as well.
Fortunately, Geragos claimed that Chris Brown could be released as early as next week because the L.A. County Sheriff's Department has been releasing inmates sentenced to one year in prison after just 240 days. "If he isn't out by Monday, then I would expect he's getting special treatment," he said. "[Chris has] over 230 days credit on a 365 [day sentence] and generally the sheriff is releasing on a lot less than that."
