The music publication Billboard recently made a report saying that, if the rumored $3.2 billion acquisition pushes through, Beats Electronics co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre could be given executive positions in Apple's team. People who are familiar with the acquisition talks add that the pair could be given yet-to-be-confirmed executive roles. Apple hirings could be announced at its Worldwide Developers Conference sometime in early June.

More buzz and speculations continue to spread since the story was released last Thursday of what could be the biggest acquisition in Apple's history. However, both groups remain silent about their intent. If reports prove to be true, Iovine is most likely to oversee Apple's music strategies as well as its relationships with publishers and music labels, something which would indeed be a big change for Apple. In addition to being the co-founder of Beats, Iovine is a music producer as well as the chairman of umbrella label Universal Music Group's Interscope Geffen A&M. He was also the co-founder of Interscope Records.

For quite some time now, Apple has been a major contender in the music industry. However, digital sales of songs and albums both began to decline around last year. But in theory, the streaming music subscription service of Beats can be used to complement the iTunes Store song downloads as well as the Pandora-like music streaming of iTunes Radio. This combination should create an edge against newcomer competitors Rdio and Spotify.

While many good things are expected with the acquisition and possible executive position appointments of the Beats co-founders, Apple should keep in mind the ill-fated relationships between celebrities and tech-companies to avoid ending up in the same situation. Although previous tie-ups did not end so well, Dr. Dre also enjoys the status of being a successful businessman aside from being a celebrity, giving him a better position to vie for a spot in Apple's team and lead this acquisition to success.
