Star Wars Episode 7 Movie Cast Rumors and News: Denis Lawson Turns Down Role in Upcoming Disney Film
With the recent news surrounding the official "Star Wars Episode 7" cast announcement, comes a new story about the actor who rejected the chance to be in the upcoming Disney film.
U.K.'s The Courier reported that, during a screening of his most recent film, "The Machine," 66-year-old Scottish actor, director and original "Star Wars" cast member, Denis Lawson was asked about his possible participation in the upcoming film.
His answer was, "NOPE...BORING!"
When asked if the next Denis Lawson film to be screened would be "Star Wars," he replied, "I'm not going to do that."
Asked if it was because Disney had taken over the franchise, he responded, "They asked me, but it just would have bored me."
Ouch.
Lawson is known by "Star Wars" fans as the originator of the minor yet significant role of Rebel Alliance pilot Wedge Antilles in the original "Star Wars" trilogy.
In the movie, Antilles saves Luke Skywalker's life during the Battle of Yavin in "A New Hope" and leads the fighter attack on the Death Star in "Return of the Jedi."
Despite Lawson's "boring" comment, there seems to a sort of love for "Star Wars" that runs in his family.
Lawson's nephew, Ewan McGregor, played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy.
Little is known about whether McGregor was offered and/or declined the opportunity to reprise the Obi-Wan Kenobi role in the new Disney movie.
Since "Star Wars," Lawson has starred mostly on British programs, including the BBC's 2005 "Bleak House" miniseries and alongside Ben Whishaw in the miniseries "Criminal Justice," according to the Huffington Post.
Though Lawson is opting out, we know who's in, and we couldn't be more excited.
On April 29, Starwars.com announced the names of the actors confirmed for the upcoming movie including names that were already previously rumored to be in the film. The official cast includes John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker .
