The Truth About Shailene Woodley's Arrest
Shailene Woodley is an actress who took a big step to bring a cause to many people's attention. Her arrested was made headlines across the nation last week as she was charged with criminal trespassing and engaging in a riot.
Though made an arrest, the actress and activist wanted to make sure it's getting attention for the right rhyme and reason. She had penned an essay with Time magazine stating the truth about her arrest with explanations on the importance of the peaceful protest and awareness.She was arrested on the Indigenous People's day, a holiday where America is meant to celebrate the indigenous people of North America.
As reported by Time, she said: 'It took me, a white non-native woman being arrested... to bring this cause to many people's attention'. She was protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline on Oct 10 and initially arrested. Afterwards, she pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal arrest.
The Standing Rock Sioux tribe's are very proud of protesters like Woodley for backing their pipeline concerns and has been with them all the way through the protest. These pipeline could have easily damage their water supple and cause disruption to their tribal sites. Also according to mtv, she said that they don't know the native reality of America, yet they wear their heritage, sacred totems, culture, follow art, history etc!
After giving her statement on her arrest, and given a speech about the Facebook Livestream she posted on who's more dangerous..the police or the protectors? Shailene began to call out Americans for exploiting Native American traditions without respecting their culture. She is now out and jail and will continue fighting for the crime she was arrested, that is, fighting for clean water!
