ABC has renewed "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." for another season set for release in fall 2014.

Based on the organization S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) of Marvel Comics and "the Avengers," the "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." TV series was created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen. The show is about a spy and peacekeeping agency in a world where new superheroes and paranormal occurrences pop up every day. Marvel Television and Mutant Enemy co-produced the series with ABC Studios. The setting is in the same universe as the blockbuster Marvel Comics films and the story depicts a team of agents led by Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg.

The storyline of Season 2 is still not clear and even the casting is not yet finalized. It will likely feature Agent Coulson's attempts to rebuild the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization from the ground up, as he was directed to by Nick Fury in the last episode of the first season. Followers of the TV series can expect Clark Gregg to return in the role of Phil Coulson. The other cast members, including Elizabeth Henstridge (playing Jemma Simmons), Iain De Caestecker (Leo Fitz), Ming-Na Wen (Melinda May), and Chloe Bennet (Skye) are all expected to return for "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 2, although we cannot know for how long. As this is a Joss Whedon show, there is always a significant risk of characters dying off.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." seems to have well earned its second season with the big following it has achieved in spite of all the big hindrances, such complaints about slow pacing and unexciting characters. It has managed to come up with interesting methods to play up the characters and to build a more mature spy-surveillance drama quality. The guest appearances of Captain America and Nick Fury have also added depth to the show and its story, as well as providing the boost of star power.
