Microsoft’s Surface series giving a tough fight to MacBook Pro
Microsoft's Surface series first made its debut on October 26, 2012. Since then, the laptop series has seen many ups and downs. There are nine versions were introduced by Microsoft including Surface Pro, Surface Book and Surface Hub.
Initially the US tech giant seems to failed with its Pro series but later it becomes a huge success. In terms of sales, Apple's Mac and iPad series is still way ahead of Microsoft's Surface series.
With its cutting edge specs, the Surface series started increasing its share in the market. Currently, Microsoft's Surface series captures a huge market share in laptop and tablet computers. Surface Pro 3 is said to be the device which boost the market share of Microsoft. According to betanews.com, Microsoft sold 1.1 Million Surface units in first quarter of 2016.
Last week, Microsoft has reported the earnings of $926 million in its 3rd quarter of 2016 and both Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book has played a huge role in it, according to Forbes.
These figures indicate towards success of the Surface series. Later this month, Apple might launch its new Mac series, which includes MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. Microsoft is also ready with its Surface all-in-one device, which might debut before the end of the October reports, Forbes has reported.
In the current scenario, theo Surface series still has a long way to go to catch up with the sales of the MacBook series but its steady rise is an alarm bell for Apple. The race seems to have begun between the world's two biggest tech giants. At the end of the month, we will see some new gadgets from both of the companies.
The next version of Microsoft's book laptop set to launch in mid-2017, while Surface Pro 5 in October. The models are expected to come up with features like 4K screen, Intel Kaby Lake processor, etc. The prices have yet not confirmed.
