'Diablo 3' for Xbox One and PS4 Release Date & Price: 'Reaper of Souls' Expansion Joins Ultimate Evil Edition, Pre-Order Includes Bonus Key
Blizzard announced on Monday that the new installment to "Diablo 3," which previously debuted for PC, is set for release on Aug. 19, 2014 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4 and PS3. The latest edition will have "Reaper of Souls," the new expansion, bundled with "Diablo 3" in a product called "Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition." The Xbox One and PS4 editions will retail at $59.99 whereas the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions will retail at $39.99.
Pre-orders and the game bundle's launch copies come with a key to download the Infernal Pauldrons, an in-game item, announced Blizzard. The Pauldrons grant Vitality, Life per Second, and Cooldown Reduction to characters as early as level 1. However, players should note that redeeming the code to get the item requires an Internet connection, and the item cannot be transferred across platforms.
Added to the "Ultimate Evil Edition" is an Apprentice mode, where low-scoring gamers receive bonuses when playing against high-scoring players.
Players can copy their old characters from the original console version of "Diablo 3" to the "Ultimate Evil Edition," even if the old character and the "Ultimate Evil Edition" are for different console generations; they simply need to be consoles in the same line (such as Xbox 360 to Xbox One or PS3 to PS4). The "Ultimate Evil Edition" features four-player multiplayer (online and/or local combined) and some features that are not found in the "Reaper of Souls" PC edition. Players can send a loot package to their friends known as "item gifting," but only after a Legendary item has been found. In addition, players can seek revenge against monsters that killed a friend's character through "avenger kills," although the beast will have gotten stronger from the victory.
Forbes notes that this release of information, "breaks the suspense about what was going on with the Xbox version of the game," since licensing issues with Microsoft could have delayed the game's versions between systems.
