New York City authorities warns of al Qaeda threat on Election Day
There is expected to be a threat of attacks by Al Qaeda militants on Election Day, the Federal officials have warned the authorities in New York City stating about unspecific attacks.
Based on the information officials have taken steps to continue high level of security in airports, tunnels and bridges across New York City as per Reuters.
The New York City police department is aware of the information and the department stated that they are working with the intelligence agencies and the Joint Terrorism Task Force. The White House is also aware of the threat; there are chances and risk of such attacks to take place on events like Election Day.
According to the Time, there might be violence on Election Day as the race continuous between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Apart from this it is believed that Russia or other state actors could possibly spread misinformation or tamper with the voting system online.
The FBI on the other side is taking quality measures to ensure cyber defenses against electronic threats to voting systems.
There are other rumors stating that the threat could be real on the day of the Presidential results, the al Qaeda have been attacking America for more than 15 years.
The United States have also carried out operations striking in Afghanistan targeting two al Qaeda's senior leaders. As the intelligence agencies still view al Qaeda as top counter terrorism priority, they have also merged with state police and have taken high level of security measures.
The three states that are said to be under threat are Texas, Virginia and New York, the governor of Texas stated that the situation is being monitored and urged Texans to be vigilant. With all the measures taken into consideration there seems to be no chance that any threat could come though.
