Saber cat is a part of the various extinct groups of predatory mammals that were characterized by long, curved Saber shaped canine teeth. Smilodon is practically a synonym for Sabercat. In the La Bren asphalt seeps of Los Angeles, the fossils of the famous knife tooth have been found by the hundred.

According to Mail Online, it is one of the largest sabertooths of all time in the species Smilodon populator. They are the largest and also much more bulkier than tigers. But, speaking of its skull, the Smilodon can't be claim to be the 'Biggest Sabercat'. A different carnivore was given this honor.

The record was set straight in the newspaper by Paleontologist Deng Tao, Zhijie Tseng about a huge skull of Machurodus Horribilis. The fossil found in a little bit crushed is in a roughly 8.3 million old rock of China's Longjigon Basin. The cheeks and frontal bones of the skull have been crushed with caprices of geology and time. However, after reconstructing it to its shape, the cream coloured cranium represents a menacingly larger sabercat as per reports by Scientific American.

The measurement of the new Machairodus Horribilis skull is over 16 inches long. It is longer than the well-known Ice Age species Hemotherium and Smilondon. The mass body of Machairodus Horribilis is over 892 pounds.Machairodus Horribilis is not like any other sabercat as compared to its other relatives. Its mouth could be open up to about 70 degrees, as compared to modern lions.

Due to the differences in the muscles, the paloenlogist write that the Marchairodus Horribilis may actually only relatively target smaller prey than later saber cats tackled. The paleontologist added that the Machairodus Horribilis did not look to them as modern cats or sabercats. Their thin canine would have dictated a targeted throat bite, but yet the limitations of its muscle prefer to prey to a narrower range.
