Apart from the presidential election in the US, citizens have also voted to legalize the growth and consumption of marijuana for those who are above 21 years of age. Some states have rejected the idea of consuming cannabis, while some have approved.

Though some insist to reform the laws of marijuana, Arizona was one of the first states to vote against the measure, the voters of the state have rejected the idea of legalizing pot as per the Guardian. Meanwhile, voters in Florida and North Dakota chose to legalize marijuana for medicinal use.

California is one great support for the recreational use of marijuana; the state declared that the taxes on the sale and the farming of Marijuana could go to support law enforcement, youth programs, and environmental protection as reported by BBC.

Colorado has also approved the measure and five other states have the same law allowing its use for self-administered medication. On the other hand, Montana civilians voted to expand the medical system of marijuana with the passage of initiative 182. This removes limits to the number of patients providers can serve.

North Dakota has been the second state to approve medical marijuana, and they have also approved the use of cannabis to treat certain diseases like AIDS, cancer, epilepsy and hepatitis C. Arkansas pass the measure with specific conditions, the government must license the medicine bought from dispensaries.

California could be the game changer for marijuana policy in the US, as the state recently overtook the UK by having the fifth largest economy in the world. Its marijuana market's size is much larger than Colorado, Oregon, Alaska, and Washington combined. However, in 2012 it was Colorado and Washington that became the first states to legalize recreational use of marijuana.
