The much anticipated wait of Steve Kerr's decision is over. The former five-time NBA champion has announced that he will be the next head coach of the Golden State Warriors.

Kerr had a tremendous career playing in the NBA. He is notable for his clutch three point shooting with the Chicago Bulls and the San Antonio Spurs. Kerr is also notable for having the most championships by an international born player, as he was born in Lebanon. But can he coach? Kerr has never been a head coach in the NBA before, so many questions still remain unanswered about what style of play he will attempt to incorporate.

The Warriors recently fired Mark Jackson, who coached the team for three seasons. The firing came as a huge surprise to many basketball fans, because Jackson took over a terrible franchise and led them in the right direction. Prior to Jackson arriving in Golden State, the last time the Warriors even made the playoffs in consecutive seasons was 1991-92. With Mark Jackson there just three seasons, the Warriors made the playoffs his last two years.

Obviously Jackson was not fired strictly for basketball reasons. Rumors have swirled that Jackson and Warriors owner had their clashes in the past and couldn't get along. Supposedly, Jackson's high faith and commitment to the church in his area restricted him from moving to Golden State.

It hasn't been confirmed by Jackson whether or not he was unwilling to relocate, but what's done is done. The Warriors have an unproven Steve Kerr who has never coached a game and Jackson is a free agent.

The New York Knicks had high interest in signing Kerr to their current vacant coaching position. There's a big connection between Kerr and the Knicks, and that is Phil Jackson. Phil Jackson coached Kerr for five seasons in Chicago and Kerr is very familiar with the famous triangle offense. Although Kerr doesn't have any head coaching experience, he is great friends with Phil and he knows the system that Phil wants. Steve Kerr may have made a good decision because the Knicks still have a lot of questions remaining on their roster with upcoming free agents. Will Carmelo Anthony stay or leave? There's still some dysfunction with the Knicks.

So moving forward, what should the Knicks do?

They should pick up the phone and call Mark Jackson immediately. Jackson is a New York City-born basketball coach who is by far the best option available. Who would have even thought he would be an option for the Knicks after the outstanding job he did in Golden State? Kerr as head coach would have made headlines and would have been interesting, but Jackson is an opportunity that you just can't miss. Phil Jackson has already made it clear he isn't going to return to coaching and Mike Brown hasn't had any success outside of LeBron James.

Although the addition of Jackson to the Knicks would probably excite Knicks fans, Mark may not be Phil's cup of tea. Maybe two Jackson's don't make a right. Mark is going to want to run the team his way and Phil is going to want his players incorporated into his system. We've seen multiple times in sports where clashes with upper and lower management prohibit longevity going forward. Prime example, the Dallas Cowboys with owner Jerry Jones and coach Jimmy Johnson.

If Jackson is willing to relocate back to his home city, this should be a no-brainer for the Knicks. Mark also played for the Knicks for seven seasons after being drafted by the team in the first round in 1987. With an unexperienced Kerr now out of the coaching loop, Mark jackson to the Knicks is by far the best option.
