Report: Sony will Launch OLED TV at CES 2017, using LGD's panel
After years of waiting, Sony could finally launch an OLED TV at the CSE 2017 show in Las Vegas. Sony will reportedly use one of LG display's OLED panels.
According to Forbes, Sony will be using LGD panels. Sony is actually producing its own large-size AMOLED panels but only for its professional monitor range.
This is not the first time about the Sony's plan to launch an OLED TV. For OLED TV Sony and Panasonic were partnered to showcase 56" 4K OLED TV at CES 2013. But the partnership was ended later in 2013. Then Panasonic started on to launch its first OLED TV in 2015 based on LG Display's panels.
Since the Sony's TV unit produced and demonstrated several high- end LCD in order to match the technology LG's OLED TV.
Sony currently offers professional monitor in several sizes and several series. Sony's OLED monitors provide a superior image quality compared to LCDs, and the cost difference is not so high. Sony has already sold over 15,000 professional OLED monitors and the latest monitor is 30" 4K BVM-X300.
Rumors were growing in September 2016 about the Sony's plan to enter the OLED TV market by reporting that "Panasonic and Sony are expected to launch OLED TVs". Italian media has also reported, in early November about the whispers of Sony showcasing the OLEDTVs to certain people under NDAs. But all the reports are still skeptical and not entirely convinced.
Sony is already producing OLED monitors but wanted to enter the OLED TV market for years. According to ET News, Sony will be sourcing OLED panels from LG. Display and Sony will be unveiled the OLED TV at CEs 2017.
So still, a little skeptical. All these will be confirmed in next month Las Vegas for CES.
