The Marlins are on the go to the heart-wrenching job of giving a facelift to their team after the sudden and unforeseen death of Jose Fernandez. They decided on a deal with a free agent Edinson Volquez.

The news was first brought to the light by The Miami Herald and then confirmed by ESPN. It was also stated that the physical test was yet to be done.

The right-hand veteran signed a two-year contract for $22 million. Volquez was an All-Star in 2008 when he won 17 games with Cincinnati and helped pitch Kansas City to the World series title in 2015 as he went 13-9 with a 3.55 ERA. He slipped to 10-11 with 5.37 ERA with the Royals this year, according to MLB.

The loss of Jose has come as a great shock to the Marlins. He died in a boating accident a week prior to the regular season in September. He went 16-8 with 2.86 ERA this year.

Miami's rotation is expected to include Tom Koehler, Adam Conley and Wei-Yin Chen, who combined to go 22-24 in 2016.

Volquez, 33, owes an enriching history to his career profile lately being associated with The Kansas City Royals. He was the opening day starter in the last season and a very important piece of rotation during last year's World Series run.

He struggled with unpredictability in 2016 and ended the season winless in his final seven starts. Overall, he went 0-1 with a 6.48 ERA in eight home starts after the All-Star break. He finished with 10-11 record with 5.37 ERA and allowed 217hits, being the second-most in the AL.

An All-Star in 2008 when he went 17-6 with a 3.21 ERA for the Cincinnati Reds, Volquez signed a $20 million, two-year contract with the Royals in 2014 after coming off one of the best seasons of his career with Pittsburgh. He spent 2012 and part of the 2013 season with the Padres, finished that season with the Dodgers and joined Pittsburgh in 2014.

Edinson became a free agent this year when he declined his mutual option with the Royals.
