"The Last of Us 2" was announced by Sony at the PSX 2016 earlier this week and a short teaser trailer was revealed shortly after. The short clip showcased a more grown up Ellie which means that she will be the main character for the sequel. As for Joel, he is in it too but fan speculations say that he may be dead and only living only in Ellie's imagination.

In "The Last of Us 2" trailer, Ellie is shown to be playing guitar inside a house that looks like there was a fight. She is shown slightly haggard with bloody injuries in her hands and face. The scene with her talking to Joel has led fans to speculate that she may only be hallucinating because she is driven mad by Joel's death.

Furthermore, there was also a Fireflies logo shown in the trailer which would mean that Joel may have been murdered by the group going by the ending of the first game, Eurogamer notes. The plot of "The Last of Us 2" may very well be Ellie going after Joel's murderers, however; this hasn't been confirmed or denied by Naughty Dog. The fan theory has been making rounds on the internet and has people taking sides as to whether it is true or not.

During the PSX 2016 event, it was revealed that "The Last of Us 2" will revolve around the story of "hate" which contrasts to the original story's theme of "love," according to IGN. It was also known that Halley Gross, a co-writer for "Westworld" has written "The Last of Us 2" together with Neil Druckmann, the original writer of the first game.

Why do you think "The Last of Us 2" will be centered on a "hate" story and will Ellie be going on a revenge rampage for Joel's alleged death? Tell us your fan theories in the comment section below.
