Supermoon in December 2016; The last Supermoon till 2034 will be Joining with Geminid Meteor Shower; Tips how to see Meteor shower clearly
December 13 - The last Supermoon in 2016 and is happening next week! Getting its perigee at 5:00 GMT or 19:05 EST on December 14. For stargazers and those who didn't get the chance to see the previous supermoon and the Beaver moon, now is the least opportunity to witness the Astronomical event and says "until 2034."
As 2016 nearly bid its goodbye, a rare event will occur and definitely gonna leave the year with remarks of "awesome." December's full moon will be more special as the Geminid meteor shower will be joining but stargazers may not enjoy the event. As per International Business Times, the light of the meteor shower will be depleted by two to 10-fold because of the moonlight.
But the Geminid meteor showers can still be worth watching. According to Jim Roselli, the president of New Jersey Astronomical Association says that the timing of the meteor shower is not a big deal as it will still provide enough shooting stars. Further stating "It is one of the best and most reliable because it's in the early evening and it is bright."
According to NJ, some of the brightest shooting and biggest stars are visible next week even when the reached its peak but unfortunate for smaller and dimmer meteors as it will be blocked by the moonlight. Roselli pointing the fact of "after the moon illuminated the sky, the eyes can't fully adapt into the dark." Making it more difficult to see the shooting stars.
So here are some tips of Rosselli for stargazers and those who wanted to make the event a superb one:
1.) As much as possible get away from any light pollution and find a spot that can be considered the darkest location.
2.) Just remember to look on the opposite side of the moon, if really wanted to get watch the breathtakingly awesome meteor shower. By all means, avoid the moon.
One fine idea is to watch it online. Though the Geminid meteor shower will begin Sunday night but it becomes more active on December 13 and still be visible in until December 16. The Supermoon next week will be considered as the last, as per NASA revealed that another opportunity of witnessing another Supermoon will be in the year 2034, 25th of November.
