Recently in the entertainment world, the pop-R & B superstar Beyonce has led Grammy nominations for 2017 with nine nominations. Most nominations came from her albums such as Formation and Lemonade. Meanwhile, surprisingly, Chance the Rapper got seven nominations even if it is his first year in the running.

According to Los Angeles Times, Beyonce and Chance the Rapper were really making a history with these numerous Grammy Award nominations. Beyonce was recorded to be the most nominated female artist through the nine nominations. Meanwhile, Chance the Rapper got his nominations from his debut album "Coloring Book". It was just issued this year only as a music stream and not as a physical CD or an old-school mix-tape.

Moreover, it was also mentioned that his seven nominations, including the Best New Artist has caused a rule change. It opened an opportunity for artists who are not into traditional forms.

"We never want to be in position where music that deserves to be in the mix is usurped by some technicality in the process. The evaluation and judgment of our voting members is always about the music and excellence, not at all about sales or marketing or technology." Recording Academy President Neil Portnow told The Times on Monday.

As reported in Chicago Tribune, Chance the Rapper's album "Coloring Book" is the first streaming-only album to chart in the Billboard 200. Ironically, his first mix tape came out a decade ago already.

Meanwhile on the major categories of the Grammy Awards, mainstream artists from the worlds of pop and hip-hop have dominated. Here are some of the artists nominated as also reported in Chicago Tribune:

  • Beyonce and Adele were the only artists nominated in all three of the top categories: album, song and record of the year.
  • Album of the year nominees include Bieber ("Purpose"), Simpson ("A Sailor's Guide to Earth"), Beyonce ("Lemonade"), Adele ("25) and Drake ("Views").
  • Record of the year nominees are Adele ("Hello"), Beyonce ("Formation"), Lukas Graham ("7 Years"), Rihanna ("Work") and Twenty One Pilots ("Stressed Out"). Song of the year nods go to Beyonce's "Formation," Adele's "Hello," Bieber's "Love Yourself," Mike Posner's "I Took a Pill in Ibiza" and Lukas Graham's "7 Years."

The recordings released last October 1, 2015 until September 30, 2016 were the only qualified to be nominated. Stay tuned for more updates as this 59th Grammy Awards is set to be on February 12 next year.
