2014 Preakness Stakes: Betting Odds, Predictions, How to Watch
The Preakness Stakes is the second race of the "big three" en route to horse racing's elusive triple crown. No horse has been able to win the triple crown since 1978, when Affirmed accomplished that feat.
After convincingly winning the 2014 Kentucky Derby, California Chrome ridden by Victor Espinoza, will once again be the odds-on favorite to win the Preakness Stakes. This year's field at the Preakness Stakes will have just 10 horses.
The post positions and odds are as follows:
Post 1. Dynamic Impact: 12-1
Post 2. General a Rod: 15-1
Post 3. California Chrome: 3-5
Post 4. Ring Weekend: 20-1
Post 5. Bayern: 10-1
Post 6. Ria Antonia: 30-1
Post 7. Kid Cruz: 20-1
Post 8. Social Inclusion: 5-1
Post 9. Pablo Del Monte: 20-1
Post 10. Ride On Curlin: 10-1
Of course, everyone will have their eyes on California Chrome for a number of reasons. As the Kentucky Derby winner and the odds on favorite to win the Preakness Stakes, Chrome will have the most fan support.
The horse with the second highest odds of winning is Social Inclusion, whose jockey is Luis Contreras. Many people believe that Social Inclusion is a huge threat to take down California Chrome and is worth betting on. Mexican born jockey, Contreras is a very experienced horse rider who once won the Canadian Triple Crown. He's been riding horses since he was 16 years old and will be attempting to win the Preakness Stakes Saturday evening.
The biggest payout by a winning horse would be by Ria Antonia and jockey Calvin Borel. Borel has won the Kentucky Derby three times and the Preakness Stakes once, so he's no ghost when it comes to success. This just may not be the right year or the horse for him. It's a long shot, but there's always a chance.
An interesting horse to watch this year is Ride On Curlin ridden by Dominican jockey Joel Rosario. The odds makers have the pair coming in with the third highest odds to win, but many are still hesitant. Ride On Curlin will be starting in the outside post at No. 10. Not impossible to overcome, but betters usually stay away from the outside horse.
