“Divergent Ascendant” Postponed Indefinitely – Author Explains Why; Original Cast Says Goodbye
It's sad, sad news indeed for "Divergent Ascendant" fans. The movie has been postponed indefinitely by producers and author Veronica Roth tells fans why. it was announced a month ago that the fourth "Divergent" movie will not be released in cinemas but was to be made into a TV movie instead. Lionsgate has officially announced this to the dismay of the movie's main cast Shailene Woodley who plays Tris and Theo James who plays Four.
Movie News Guide has an exclusive report on what Veronica Roth has to say about the cancellation. The "Divergent" author spoke to fans through a letter through her social media account. She said that she had no say on how Lionsgate adapts the movie series. She is updated on the development of the movie but the studio may or may not take this into consideration.
Roth also mentioned that it was not her decision to split the final book into two parts. She is also waiting to see what happens and she understands that it is "uncommon for an author to have any creative control over the adaptation of his or her work." She ended her letter saying that she hopes that whatever happens is right for the characters and the story. "I will certainly share whatever news I can moving forward." Roth has a new book and is inviting fans to join her at "Carve the Mark."
As reported by Mstars News, "Divergent Ascendant" will be released to a TV movie however; Shailene Woodley as well as other cast members will not reprise their roles. Woodley specifically said that she was not formally informed of the major change and while she respects the decisions of the producer, she did not sign up for a TV show.
There were rumors that Theo James will also quit the movie since his longtime co-star and on-screen love interest will not be joining him. There are reports of new twists and turns in Tris and Four's characters for Ascendant but the two are not interested to become part of the movie anymore.
