Billboard Music Awards Shows 2014: Predicting the Winners And Losers in Top Categories
Okay, music heads and aficionados, time to start placing your bets on who will be the biggest winners and unfortunate losers of the 2014 Billboard Music Awards; and who might be the best performances of the night. I think you should bet with CDs rather than money.
But before we get to the possible winners and losers of tonight's live event on ABC at 8 p.m. EST/ 7 Central, they have been two confirmed performances: Katy Perry will perform her song "Birthday" tonight. Billboard shared this tidbit of information on their Official Facebook Page.
And, Michael Jackson is expected to perform, a la Hologram style. Entertainment Weekly reported that a federal judge ruled on Friday that the Billboard show's producers be allowed to use a hologram of the deceased "King of Pop" to promote the singer's posthumous album, "Xscape." The judge ruled that there was not enough evidence to illustrate that use of the 3D image violated patents held by Hologram USA Inc. and Musion Das Hologram Ltd. These hologram companies are the owners of the rights to the technology that brought 2Pac Shakur's 3D image to the 2012 Coachella.
Perry and Jackson performing, it sounds like a great show. No word on whether the two of them will be performing together; that is doubtful, however.
Now let us get to the divination of Billboard's winners and losers:
Top New Artist: Nominees: Ariana Grande, Lorde, Bastille, Capital Cities, and Passenger. *Possible Winner: Passenger, they have a really good sound. Ariana Grande may have to wait a couple of years.
Top Billboard 200 Album: Nominees: Beyoncé: "Beyoncé"; Justin Timberlake: "The 20/20 Experience"; Luke Bryan: "Crash My Party"; Eminem: "The Marshall Mathers LP 2"; and Drake: "Nothing Was the Same." *Possible Winner: Beyoncé. "Just bow down."
Top Latin Artist: Nominees: Marc Anthony, Jenni Rivera, Prince Royce, Romeo Santos, and Gerardo Ortíz. *Possible Winner: Jenni Rivera. Rivera died in an airplane crash a little more than two years ago. Sorry Marc Anthony, perhaps next year.
Top Dance/Electronic Artist: Nominees: Daft Punk, Avicii, Calvin Harris, Zedd, and Lady Gaga. Yes I wrote Lady Gaga. *Possible Winner: Daft Punk, on account of their winning streak at the Grammys. The mega-monster Lady Gaga is definitely trying something new this year, but I do not think she will win.
Top Female Artist: Nominees: Miley Cyrus, Beyoncé, Lorde, Rihanna, and Katy Perry. This is a tough one. *Possible Winner: It could be between Beyoncé and Miley.
Top Male Artist: Nominees: Luke Bryan, Drake, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, and Eminem. This might be a big shocker. *Possible Winner: Bruno Mars. But you never know, some people love the country music, so Bryan might stand a chance.
Enjoy tonight. Ludacris will be hosting.
