Halle Berry makes her return to TV in the summer show series "Extant."

In case you did not know this is a sci-fi drama, which Berry is no stranger too, after playing the titular role of Storm in all of the the "X-Men" films that featured her character and in the upcoming "X-Men Days of Future Past" out May 23.

"Extant" marks Berry's return to TV and her second time working with Steven Spielberg. Let us find out more about "Extant."

Before you ask, extant is a real word; it is an adjective which means surviving, still existing, not destroyed or lost. I think it kind of sets up the premise of the show.

"Extant" is a futuristic thriller, where Berry plays Molly Woods, an astronaut who returns home after a year-long solo space mission. Solo mission is important here; on returning back to Earth, she has to readjust to her life and also figure out a way to tell her husband that she is pregnant. Yes, pregnant on a solo-mission. And, Berry's Molly also has to interact with her robot son. Please see the trailer below this article.

One writer with the IGN said he is both curious and a little creeped out by the new TV series. I would be too. The show itself looks like a hybrid of "Gravity," "Alien," and "A.I. Artificial Intelligence"; the latter film was what some perhaps call Spielberg's love. And Spielberg himself is no stranger to sci-fic with films such as "E.T.," "Gremlins" and "Jurassic Park."

Spielberg has had many film and TV projects. In one of his film projects "The Flintstones," Berry played the character Miss Sharon Stone -- yeah, the same name as the actress. This was in 1994 that they did that movie together. And, Berry's last time on TV was in 1999, when she starred and produced in "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge."

It has only been a year since Spielberg did any TV projects; for Berry, it has been 15 years. But let us all keep our fingers crossed for this new summer miniseries with a 13-episode run.

"Extant" will debut on CBS July 9. It also stars Goran Visnjic ("ER" and "K-11"), Camryn Manheim ("Ghost Whisperer" and "The Practice"), and Hiroyuki Sanada ("Revenge" and "Lost").
