Upcoming film 'War for the Planet of the Apes' hints at a connection with the 1968 original movie
The new ape movie "War for the Planet of the Apes" will hit the theatres in July 14, 2017. Meanwhile the new trailer hinted at an original character of 1968 is going to return.
As per IGN, a little girl can be seen in the trailer multiple times with the apes. She first appears riding a horse with Gorilla Maurice as Ceaser looks at her.
According to EW, the little girl is actually mute and named Nova. Amiah Miller plays the character in the upcoming movie.
The science fiction drama film is a sequel to the 2014 film "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and the third installment in the "Planet of the Apes" reboot series.
The story revolves around ape Caesar, played by Andy Serkis and his tribe facing the uncertainty of their existence as the human military is ready to wage war. Ceaser's dark side is coming through as he is on the verge of losing all sympathy for the humankind to save his species.
Nova appearance in the movie is definitely a major story arc as a medium to salvage Ceaser's soul. "The battle is not just between the humans and the apes, but in Caesar's soul," EW quotes director Matt Reeves. "The girl is his pull back to his empathy and - for lack of a better word - his human side."
Nova is also the connecting factor between the 2017 movie and the original 1968 film. In 1968, the Nova was played by Linda Harrison. Harrison played the role in the original "Planet of the Apes" and reprised it in 1970's "Beneath the Planet of the Apes".
Up until Nova's return, viewers were unclear about the original and reboot ape movies. One small connection was the lost spaceship names Icarus in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes", which was also the name of the ship carrying astronaut Taylor the original "Planet of the Apes".
