The worldwide commerce platform known as eBay has launched new languages for its Latin American consumers.

eBay, one of the largest online marketplaces with 145 million active buyers globally, has made online shopping easier for Latin Americans as the company added Spanish and Portuguese versions of the website.

According to eBay, the Latin American region has already provided the company with more than two-million users but via the English-language website and with U.S. dollars. With the Portuguese and Spanish versions, Latin American consumers can further utilize eBay on desktop and mobiles.

"Over the past year, eBay has started to build a presence in Latin America, partnering with PayPal on a variety of efforts, and understanding what matters most to shoppers in the region," eBay's Global Expansion and Cross Border Trade Vice President Wendy Jones said.

Jones recognizes Latin America as one of the fastest-growing commerce markets in the world and has therefore innovated eBay for the region's consumers to "better enable them to shop the world."

eBay's Latin American launch is apparently part of the company's multi-year journey to see growth in the BRIC countries and emerging markets. The BRIC, or BRICS, term has been used to refer to Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, who have been seen as emerging markets in the developing world. Capitalizing on the BRICS countries, eBay launched the eBay Moda fashion mobile app in 2012. The app helped translate to the Russian language and currency conversion in rubles. By April 2013, eBay rolled out the Russian version.

eBay took a similar approach in Latin America. Before releasing the Spanish and Portuguese websites, eBay launched the eBay Moda fashion mobile app in September 2013 but for Portuguese speakers. With the launch of the Spanish and Portuguese eBay websites, the company released the main eBay mobile app for Portuguese speakers in Brazil. The Spanish variant of the mobile app has been released for "some time."

In total, eBay sports seven languages.

The product shipments for Latin American consumers have also improved because of eBay's global shipping program (GSP). The program, available in Mexico and 52 other countries, has expanded to Brazil.

"When eBay customers in Mexico or Brazil purchase an item from a merchant in the U.S. who is enrolled in the program, they will see and pay the all-in cost of the item, including taxes and duties," eBay noted in a statement. GSP aims to eliminate the surprises that can occur in international ecommerce."
