Senator Marco Rubio said he doesn't think it's helpful to reveal whether or not he has ever tried marijuana.

"If you say that you did, then suddenly there are people out there saying, 'Well, it's not a big deal,'" Rubio said in an interview with "Politics Confidential" released yesterday. "On the other side of it is, if you tell people that you didn't, they won't believe you."

In the interview, the Republican Florida representative was quite evasive. Apparently, Rubio's policy on keeping mum goes back to when he released his memoir "American Son." The book depicted his childhood, which featured a 2.1 high school GPA and a lack of ambition.

"Someone came up to me and said, 'You know, I enjoyed your book, but I want you to know my son came up to me and said he doesn't have to get good grades in high school because look at Marco Rubio. He didn't do well in high school and look how successful he's been,'" Rubio shared. "And that impacted me."

Just because Rubio doesn't want to talk about his past with marijuana doesn't mean he doesn't have an opinion on it. He is against the Obama administration's allowing of states like Colorado to legalize recreational marijuana.

"When something is legal, implicitly, what you're saying [is] it can't be all that bad because ... if it's legal, it can't be bad for you, and the bottom line is I believe that adding yet another mind-altering substance to something that's legal is not good for the country," Rubio said. "I understand there are people that have different views on it, but I feel strongly about that."

Rubio also acknowledged that he is under consideration for a 2016 presidential run, saying he thinks he's ready to handle the responsibilities. He will make his decision by the beginning of 2015 at the latest.

"I'll look at a number of factors, personal factors, but also whether I could best promote this message ... and actually put in place these ideas that I want to see put in place, whether I could best do that from the presidency as opposed to the Senate," the senator said.
