Debbie Reynolds Passes Away at 84; Cardiac Arrest Pointed As Cause of Death
Actress Debbie Reynolds dies, Wednesday afternoon, after being rushed to the Los Angeles-based Cedar-Sinai Medical Center. Citing a medical emergency on her son's home in Beverly Hills, the Los Angeles Fire Department transported the actress, who joins her daughter a day after at 84.
TMZ reports that Todd Fisher, Debbie's son and Carrie's brother, has stated that her mother has passed away due to cardiac arrest. The family was working on the funeral plans for Carrie Fisher, Debbie's daughter and most notably known as Princess Leia Organa of the Star Wars films, who just passed away Tuesday morning after having a cardiac arrest a few days before, when a 911 call was made. Reynolds went to social media on Tuesday to express her gratitude for the support family and friends have given in response to Carrie's departure.
ABC News recalls a previous conversation with Todd, stating that the 84-year old actress had a small stroke last summer while recovering from an operation. Carrie has also stated her concerns about her mother's health, which she refers to as "frail". Calling her "resilient", she describes Reynolds as someone who bounces back after becoming really ill.
Debbie is mostly remembered for her acting and musical careers during the 1950's and 1960's. Best known for her role as Kathy Selden in 1952's 'Singing in the Rain' and her lead role in 1964's 'The Unsinkable Molly Brown', which led to an Oscar nomination. Her rendition of the song 'Tammy' from the movie 'Tammy and the Bachelor' (which she co-starred with Leslie Nielsen) earned the actress a gold record for sales, and considered the best-selling single by a female artist of 1957.
Apart from her acting and singing, Reynolds was also known to be a collector of movie memorabilia at one point, and displayed them on several locations. She was the proud owner of Charlie Chaplin's baler hat, and the white 'subway dress' Marilyn Monroe used in the 1955 film 'The Seven Year Itch'.
