Matthew McConaughey’s Reason For Choosing 'The Dark Tower' Over 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2'
Matthew McConaughey, who will star Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" this year, was previously eyed to play as a villain in "Guardians of the Galaxy'' sequel but declined. Recently, the reason behind this shocking decision was revealed, and why he chose the Stephen King adaptation.
In an interview with Playboy, the Oscar-winning actor stated that while he liked the movie directed by James Gunn, he saw it as an already successful movie, and that by joining in, he would only feel "like an amendment." While Gunn eyed him for a villain role, it was not specified which one would be play as.
On the other hand, he liked Nikolaj Arcel and his take on "The Dark Tower", calling it a fantastic thriller that is very much grounded. He also mentioned the freedom that he was given on his character, Randal Flagg aka the Man in Black aka the Devil, stating that he enjoyed the Devil-like approach he did with the part.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is set to be one of 2017's biggest movies scheduled for a May release. Aside from the returning cast, new names like Kurt Russell, Chris Sullivan and Pom Klementief would be added to the already star-studded lineup, as well as a Sylvester Stallone cameo, according to Movie Web.
"The Dark Tower" is a quasi-sequel to the book series of the same name by Stephen King. Aside from McConaghuey, the movie will also star Idris Elba, who will play as Ronald Deschain, also known as The Gunslinger, opposite his character Randal Flagg. With the release date moved from a February to July to polish up the movie's many visual effects, the movie is also building up to be a 2017 blockbuster. A TV series is also planned to follow-up on the movie, with Elba and Tom Taylor to reprise their roles as Roland and Jake Chambers respectively.
