iPhone 6 Release Date: Report Confirms Plastic Apple Phone Production
Rumors have been swirling over the past several months about Apple's new products, including a new iPhone. However, reports say the Cupertino-based company isn't working on just one smartphone -- two new iPhones could be headed for the market before the year ends.
According to recent reports, Apple will release the successor to its iPhone 5: the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6. Additionally, a budget Apple phone will allegedly be released as well. It is expected to be called the iPhone 5C or the iPhone Lite; some also say it will be the real iPhone 6.
While there still isn't anything for certain in all these talks (the iPhone names are still a blur), recent reports suggest that a Chinese manufacturing company is already working on the iPhone Lite.
On Monday, the China Labor Watch published a report entitled "Apple's unkempt promises: Cheap iPhones come at high costs to Chinese workers." In the file, a worker from Pegatron-a Chinese electronics manufacturing company detailed a day's work at the factory on Jul. 9.
"Today's work is to paste protective film on the iPhone's plastic back cover to prevent it from being scratched on assembly lines," the worker noted on the report. "The new cell phone has not yet been put into mass production, so quantity is not as important."
The report ultimately highlights the poor working conditions the employees of the company have to endure, aside from working 11 hours for six days a week, they are paid very little ($1.50 per hour). However, it has also revealed that Apple is already working on the plastic iPhone, saying that "this iPhone model with a plastic cover will soon be released on the market by Apple."
The report's company profile of Pegatron also noted that the factory manufactures and assembles Apple products, including the "iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, and low-priced plastic iPhones."
So far, reports say the new Apple iPhones, including the probable iPhone Lite or 5C, will be making its way to stores by September 2013.
