Gloria and Emilio Estefan in the Works to Create New Broadway Musical
Ladies and gentleman, it's time to get "On Your Feet." Legendary singer Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio are bringing their new musical titled, "On Your Feet!" to Broadway next year.
The Chicago tribune reports that "On Your Feet!" will be a loosely-based autobiographical story of the Cuban-born Estefan family.
According to an official "On Your Feet!" press release posted via BroadwayWorld, the story will mainly focus on "two people who-through an unwavering dedication to one another and their pursuit of the American dream-showcased their talent, their music and their heritage to the world in a remarkable rise to global superstardom."
Gloria's Grammy-winning catalog of music will be featured in the show along with new music that will be written by the Estefans. A number of Gloria's hits that include "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You, "1-2-3," "Mi Tierra," and "Conga," are also reported to be featured in the show and have audience members up on their feet.
During its beginning stages, the Estefan-inspired show will first debut in Chicago in the summer of 2015 and then make its way to NYC at the Nederlander theatre on Broadway in the fall of 2015.
The big names behind the musical include director Jerry Mitchell, who also directed the Tony award winning show "Kinky Boots," story writer and two time Drama Desk nominee Alexander Dinelaris, and choreographer Sergio Trujillo, who also choreographed the Tony award winning show "Jersey Boys."
The Nederlaner Organization and Estefan Enterprises will reportedly be producing the show along with Bernie Yuman as the show's Executive producer.
Yuman produced and managed Siegfried & Roy, one of the most successful and longest running shows in Las Vegas history, says BroadwayWorld.
Although not much is known regarding the cast and specific dates on when the show will open, Estefan fans can more than likely be expecting a hit show. After all, Gloria and her husband Emilio are known for their incredible success in music. Together, the couple has earned over 20 Grammy awards.
Will a Tony award be added to the list? Well, we'll just have to wait and see.
