Combining comic book fans' favorite series into a blockbuster film is working wonderfully for Marvel and "The Avengers." Could the same thing be done with the upcoming "Fantastic Four" reboot?

Josh Trank's reboot of the superheroes' story was written by Simon Kinberg, who also wrote 2006's "X-Men: The Last Stand," "X-Men: Days of Future Past," which hits theaters on Friday, and the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse." So, naturally, fans are wondering if Kinberg will eventually unite the two worlds, possibly creating the same type of success as "The Avengers."

The writer told IGN, however, that there are some problems with this idea.

"The tone is slightly different," he said. "Part of the challenge of the Fantastic Four vs the X-Men is if the Fantastic Four are in a world where mutants are well-known, then they're not really that Fantastic anymore. They're just four more people with powers."

That does not mean that Kinberg doesn't see Mr. Fantastic, Thing, Invisible Woman and Human Torch meeting with Professor X's mutant team -- eventually.

"I can see anything happening in comic book movies in the future, given where it's come over the span of the last 10 years," he added, citing the remarkable growth of Marvel Studios. "Ten years ago when I was working on 'X3' ... There weren't three superhero movies that came out a year. There was no sense of a larger tapestry that was being built over multiple movies. So honestly, in terms of storytelling, I think anything is possible."

"Fantastic Four" hits theaters in June 2015. It stars star Miles Teller (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm/Thing), Kate Mara (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), and Michael B. Jordan (Johnny Storm/Human Torch).

"The movies I want to be a part of, the movies I want to see, mirror the life that I live, the world that I live in," Jordan told ABC earlier this month. "Everything isn't black and white in the world that we live in. It's a very grounded superhero film ... it's so relatable, it mirrors the world we walk around in today."
