On the season six finale of "The Mentalist," Jane reopens a cold case in an attempt to prevent Lisbon from moving to the nation's capitol.

In "Blue Birds," Jane (Simon Baker) and Cho (Tim Kang) are working on a case when Cho reveals that Lisbon (Robin Tunney) is moving to Washington, D.C. with Agent Pike (Pedro Pascal) in 10 days. Lisbon told almost everyone about it except Jane, which Jane is not happy about.

Two days before Lisbon's departure, a note is sent to the FBI about a past case. The case focuses on a murderer the FBI failed to apprehend who is threatening to start committing murder once again.

Abbott (Rockmond Dunbar) gets the whole office to work on the case, and says everyone -- including Lisbon, who is supposed to be leaving for D.C. -- has to work on the case until it's solved.

Lisbon and Jane are sent to Miami to track down suspects. They speak to the husband of the first victim, the daughter and the husband's first wife. Jane sees that the family is extremely dysfunctional, and believes they are just wacky, not cold-blooded killers.

Jane and Lisbon then meet Wesley Baxter, the biggest suspect in the original case. Baxter was accused of stalking the family years before because he had an intense crush on the daughter. However, Jane also believes him to be innocent.

Lisbon goes back to the note that was sent to the FBI, and cracks a code that was left at the bottom of the page. She and Jane then go to the Blue Bird Resort, where it seems like the killer could be planning his or her next murder. Abbott and Cho also come along for backup.

Jane sets it up for the killer, and sure enough, he comes to Jane's room. The killer comes along with Wesley, who wants the killer dead because he ruined his life. The husband's lawyer who was in love with one of the killer's victims also shows up, wanting revenge.

There's a shoot out, and they eventually catch the killer.

Then Lisbon finds out that Jane booked a room for the two of them at the hotel a week before the letter arrived at the FBI, meaning Jane deliberately reopened the cold case to prevent Lisbon from going to D.C.

Lisbon is furious after finding out, and throws a glass of water in Jane's face before running off to the airport. She calls Pike to accept his marriage proposal, then hops aboard a plane to fly to Washington.

Jane, in true romantic comedy form, tears through TSA security and boards the plane before it takes off. He offers a heartfelt declaration of love to Lisbon before TSA agents apprehend him and take him into custody.

Moments later, Lisbon emerges from the plane and reciprocates his feelings before the two kiss in front of a cadre of TSA agents.
