Recall: Hummus and Other Dip Products Carried by Target and Trader Joe's Stores
An estimated 14,860 pounds of hummus and other dip products have been voluntarily recalled by prepared foods manufacturer Lansal, Inc., which does business under the name Hot Mama's Foods and distributes mainly to sellers in the Midwest and West that include Target and Trader Joe's chain stores.
The recall is a precaution due to concerns about possible contamination by Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly individuals and those with weakened immune systems.
Listeria monocytogenes poisoning can cause otherwise healthy people to suffer short-term symptoms including high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea and, in some cases lead to miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
An informational release from Lansal rexplained it has decided to recall all products manufactured at the same facility -- where the organism was found during regular testing -- and distributed to wholesalers and retailers during the same time.
