Golden Globes 2014 Results, Winners: Biggest Surprises Include Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence
The Golden Globes featured a plethora of shocking surprises especially in film. Here are the major award winners that completely left us stunned.
The first major shocker was Jennifer Lawrence's victory in the Best Supporting Actress category. While Lawrence is a major star, she took home the Globe last year and many expected Lupita Nyong'o to win the award.
Another major surprise was the victory for "All Is Lost" in the best score; many expected Hans Zimmer to win for "12 Years a Slave." That was the first victory for composer Alex Ebert in the entire awards race.
Amy Adams then stunned the world of entertainment when she topped Meryl Streep for the Best Actress in a Comedy; Streep was expected to win the award but has now lost a tremendous amount of steam in her race to acquire an Oscar nomination. Meanwhile, Adams is well on her way to get nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars this year.
Alfonso Cuaron was also a major surprise as he took the Best Director Award for his work on "Gravity." Many expected Steve McQueen's to take home the award after his film "12 Years a Slave" dominated the precursors; however, both McQueen and Cuaron had been in an intense battle for the director award. While this gives Cuaron an edge in the Oscar race, the Globes have often missed the mark on this award in the past. Martin Scorsese won for "Hugo" in 2011, but Michel Hazanavicius took home the Oscar; James Cameron also won the Globe in 2009 for "Avatar" but Kathryn Bigelow won the Oscar for "The Hurt Locker."
Leonardo DiCaprio's win in the Best Comedy Actor award for his turn in "The Wolf of Wall Street" was also a shocker as many expected Bruce Dern to take home the award.
Matthew McConaughey's victory as the Best Actor was also a huge surprise as he topped Chiwetel Ejiofor who was seen as the favorite to win for his turn in "12 Years a Slave"; McConaughey is now a major contender to win the Oscar.
