Although the BART strike is on hold, many drivers in San Francisco were still delayed as a truck carrying sushi, rice, dressing, vinegar and other food supplies burst into flame on I-80 Monday morning.

According to a report, the truck's engine caught fire on the westbound part of the Bay bridge at approximately 5:45 a.m. Due to the incident, three lanes of Interstate 80 were shut down until 3 p.m. causing traffic problems for those coming from the East Bay heading to San Francisco.

According to sources, the truck was delivering food and other grocery supplies from Castro Valley to San Francisco. The truck driver Sergio Mata said he stopped the truck when the front tire on the passenger's seat side blew out. The next thing he noticed were flames coming out of the windshield wiper holes -- prodding him to use the fire extinguisher.

When his attempt to put out the fire was unsuccessful, he decided to jump out and move away as fast as he could. The truck and grocery supplies were completely destroyed but Mata did not suffer from any injuries.

At approximately 6:50 a.m., the fire was extinguished with the help of the San Francisco fire officials and the Hazmat teams who cleared out fuel remains from the truck. Although the fire was put out quickly, investigators still need to examine the fire scene while various teams dealt with the truck removal.

While most commuters were quite happy with the postponement of the BART strike, numerous drivers suffered from the unexpected traffic delays for most of Monday's rush hour and commuting times.
