Fans are quite excited to learn the latest rumor around the block. Apparently, it's not the end of Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder's character Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore.

As per E! News, showrunner Julie Plec has previously stated the thought process that goes in while considering a crossover. Luckily, "The Originals" have a lot of options to house a crossover.

"Well, there's a lot of people that could cross over, and when we plan our crossovers, E! quoted Plec. "We like to think of like the most clever way to integrate "The Vampire Diaries" mythology into "The Originals" mythology."

As per EnStarz, "The Vampire Diaries" recently ended after being up for eight long years. Fans were sad that they will never see their favorite once-real-now-on screen couple ever again.

But rumors are rife that the duo might appear in "The Vampire Diaries" spin-off, "The Originals" as guest stars. It's pretty common for characters to crossover from original series to spin-offs.

If Elena Gilbert-Damon Somerhalder guest appearance does happen in "The Originals" it won't be the first crossover. Nina Dobrev appeared as a special guest star in "The Originals" Season 2, but as Tatia Petrova and not Elena Gilbert.

"The Originals" Season 1 witnessed Michael Trevino guest starring as Tyler Lockwood. In Season 3, Paul Wesley appeared as Stefan Salvatore while Zach Roerig reprised his role of Matt Donovan for few scenes.

"The Originals" Season 4 will feature Matt Davis as Alaric Saltzman, likely in one episode or maybe two. Season 4 will premiere on March 17, 2017.

The trailers suggested that "The Originals" Season 4 will make a time leap of five years since the defeat of Klaus and other Mikaelsons being in a magic-induced coma. Hayley is still trying to fulfill her promise of getting the city of New Orleans back from the hands of Marcel and bring back the Mikaelsons to their previous glory.
