Brand New $600 Rose Gold iPhone 7 Suddenly Exploded; Mirrors Samsung Phone Fiasco; Apple Starts Investigations
Terrible day for a brand new iPhone owner when her $600 rose gold iPhone 7 suddenly caught smoke and then exploded. Brianna Olivas, 18, took a video of her iPhone and uploaded it. The video instantly went viral gaining reactions that the incident was very similar to the exploding Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Apple has released statements saying that they will be investigating the case.
Olivas can't think of any reason why her iPhone 7 blew up, News.com.au reported. The video she took of her exploding phone showed a dented device with a buldging back cover. Smoke can still be seen coming out from a large hole along the side of the phone. Olivas narrated that she has just recently took her iPhone 7 to Sprint because it would not power on; this was where she purchased it.
As the Sprint employee checked her phone, he said that it looked "weird" when it was powered on. The employee ran some diagnostics and then said that it was okay, Kotaku reported. She took her phone home and said that it worked fine until the next day.
Her boyfriend took the iPhone 7 from the charger and placed it on the dresser. He was surprised when it suddenly caught smoke and emitted a loud squealing noise. Then the device caught fire; Brianna's boyfriend took it and threw it in the bathroom where it exploded.
Apple replaced Brianna's iPhone 7 and then took it to be tested. A representative from Apple said that they are keeping in touch with the customer and are running tests to finally determine what caused the explosion. Olivas stated that the incident has caused her a lot of anxiety. She also said that she uses only her iPhone 7 charger on her phone.
Samsung has recalled its flagship Galaxy Note 7 last year after a large number of phones bursted into flames. A worldwide recall was immediately done with the device banned from all flights in local and international airlines. Until Apple announces the reason for the iPhone 7's explosion, this event remains to be an isolated incident.
