Chelsea Handler E! Network: Star Set to Leave Network in Late August
For a while now, there had been reports that 39 year-old comedian, actress, and "Chelsea Lately" host Chelsea Handler was planning to leave the E! network.
"[E! is] a sad, sad place to live," Handler told Howard Stern during an interview last month. She added, "They don't know what they're doing. They have no ideas. It's a failure."
Now, it seems that Handler's sad days with E! will soon be officially over.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that E! and Chelsea Handle have finalized their separation plan and Handler's late-night "Chelsea Lately" show on E! will fade to black on Aug. 26.
During the final month leading up to Handler's departure, E! will be doing a month-long celebration of special "Chelsea Lately" episodes.
For the finale taping of "Chelsea Lately" on Aug. 26, there will reportedly be a live, hour-long send off for Handler, who has been with the network for seven years.
"I myself am more surprised than anyone that I was able to hold down a job for seven years, and it was a fantastic seven years," said Handler to THR. "I will always look back at my time on E! as most people look back at their time in college. I'm glad I went. "
The president of E!, Suzanne Kolb, also had nothing but praise for Handler. "We are very proud of 'Chelsea Lately's' long-running success and the unique space that the series carved out in late night television."
She continued, "Chelsea brought a distinct voice to late night with her acerbic wit and fearless commentary, and we look forward to providing fans with a memorable send-off that lives up to that tradition. Most of all, we are grateful to the 'Chelsea Lately' team for making this show so special for seven years."
So what's next for the funny lady?
Well, according to Handler's manager, Irving Azoff, Handler has many potential projects and ideas post-E! including a possible radio show or another TV talk show with a different network.
