Report: Pakistan Hosts Biggest Cricket Game After Eight Years With Tight Security
After eight people died in 2009 militant attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team Pakistan staged largest cricket game in eight years in Lahore. They hosted the cricket match with enormous security operations.
According to BBC, in 2009 militant attack eight people died on the Sri Lanka team in Lahore, which ended international cricket tours in Pakistan. But on Sunday the major match of the Pakistan Super League Twenty20 final has ended without any incident. The venue of the final was Gadaffi stadium.
After the attack in Pakistan, the foreign team has refused to tour the country. As a result of this Pakistan has played their home game in other venues such as the United Arab Emirates. In the Sunday match, the PCB has arranged thousands of troops, backed by air support, patrolled the area.
The Pakistan super league itself which drafts foreign players has been played in UAE, with Sunday's final being its first true game. Though, several international players were dropped out of Sunday's final over security issues.
Pakistan Cricket Board has reported, the famous play who chose to play was West Indian Darren Sammy, who led Peshawar Zalmi to victory. The other West Indian players, Marlon Samuels, and Englishmen Chris Jordon and Dawid Malan also played.
The militant attacks that have been killed more than 130 peoples in Pakistan. The coward worst spell of violence that sparked the fresh concerns over the ability to provide security at high profile security event.
However, several top level officials, including from the International Cricket Council have attended the game to see the security measures for themselves. The success of Sunday's game has lasting effects for Pakistan cricket fixtures.
Darren Sammy team easily defeated rivals Quetta Gladiators. But the result is seen less important than the peaceful conclusion of the event.
Meanwhile, the PCB is trying to talk with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. There is a rumored about the possibility of touring Pakistan later in 2017.
