Is the Incredible Hulk getting another solo movie?

The green monster has been featured in the superhero film "The Avengers" and will appear in its follow up but has yet to be given a solo film to further develop his story. However, recent reports indicate that Bruce Banner could get another solo film of his own, which would be the third live-action film about the superhero.

"They are doing a Hulk movie," said classic Hulk actor Lou Ferrigno during an interview with Flicks and the City. "I think after the next Avengers. The reason is because the Hulk's the last movie -- The Avengers saves the day with the star of the movie so Disney agreed to do a Hulk movie."

Nine months ago, Avengers director Joss Whedon noted that he believed a solo film based around the super hero was possible, but added that it would be difficult to pull it off.

"Yes. But it would be very, very hard. Hulk is a tricky son of a [expletive]," he said according to Screen Rant. "He's the Claudio of superheroes. Because the problem is it's a very popular character, but it's not a superhero. Half of it's a superhero, half of it's a werewolf. And you can't structure it like a superhero movie, you can't light it like a superhero movie.

"How do you develop that? It would be extremely difficult. The one thing you would have in your favor would be Mark Ruffalo," he added. "But right now I don't know if they have plans to do that or not, because he works so well as part of a greater whole, but by himself, it's tough. I don't envy the guys who went before."

Solo "Hulk" movies have not always been profitable propositions. The original film, directed by Ang Lee, managed to gross $132 million on a $137 million budget. The second film, which came out in 2008 and starred Edward Norton, only grossed $134 million on a $150 million budget.

Mark Ruffalo, the third actor to take on the role in a live action film, made his first appearance in "The Avengers" and has yet to get his own solo movie.
