NBA News: DeMarcus Cousins Picks Up 19th Technical Foul, Nears Yet Another Possible Suspension
Even with a new team, DeMarcus Cousins is still doing what he does best aside from scoring and dominating his opposition: Picking up technical fouls. Throughout his career, Cousins has been notoriously a hot-head who keeps complaining about every call thrown at him, which is why he earns a technical foul almost every time he steps on the court.
According to Fox Sports, Cousins is still getting used to his new surroundings after he was traded by his former team the Sacramento Kings, where he spent six and ha half seasons there. But despite still acclimating, the All-Star big man still didn't have any problems picking up technical fouls with the New Orleans Pelicans.
The temperamental center was just called for his (league-leading) 19th technical foul Wednesday against the Miami Heat. The foul occurred when Cousins got tangled up with Heat player Willie Reed in the first quarter.
The incident didn't look as serious as it is, but Cousins' reputation likely played a part in the technical foul call. His latest technical leaves Cousins just one shy away from picking up yet another automatic one-game suspension, which would be his third this season for accumulated technical foul calls.
According to ESPN, Cousins' numbers have dipped ever since his midseason trade from the Kings to the Pelicans. He came into Wednesday's action averaging 20.9 points and shooting 42 percent from the floor, including 28 percent from deep, which are all below his usual averages during his time in Sacramento; he was averaging 27.8 ppg, 45% FG, and 36% 3FG with the Kings this season, prior to being traded.
Right now, the Pelicans have not improved and are currently 4-6 ever since the Boogie trade. On the bright side, many analysts do think that that is just Cousins getting used to his new team and once he discovers his true role with the team, the future would be bright for New Orleans.
