An acquaintance of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been charged with obstruction of justice relating to the investigation of the case, according to an indictment unsealed Friday.

Khairullozhon Matanov, 23, of Quincy, Massachusetts is charged with one count of destroying evidence or materials in a federal investigation. The acquaintence of Tsarnaev is said to have deleted information on his computer after he found out Tsarnaev was being investigated by federal officials.

Besides the deleting of the computer records, Matanov is also being charged with three counts of giving false statements in a federal terrorism investigation.

Matanov allegedly "took a series of steps to impede the FBI's investigation into the extent of his friendship, contact, and communication with the suspected bombers, and the fact that he shared the suspected bombers' philosophical justification for violence," according to a statement from U.S. District Attorney Carmen Ortiz.

Tsarnaev and his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev are said to be responsible for setting off two pressure cooker bombs during the Boston Marathon's 2013 race. Tamerlan died in a shootout with police a few days later.

The charges against Matanov don't allege that he knew about the bombings ahead of time. If he is found guilty on all counts, he could face up to 44 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Matanov allegedly had dinner with the brothers on the night of the bombings. He also spoke with the brothers via cell phone when authorities were in the middle of a manhunt trying to find them.

When police questioned Matanov, he is said to have given false information about his friendship with the brothers. He downplayed his relationship with the brothers.

Matanov entered the U.S. legally in 2010. He's held jobs as a cab driver and other positions.

Matanov is the fourth acquaintence of the brothers to be charged with obstruction of justice in the case.
