While the Metropolitan Opera season is over and opera will not return to New York until next season, the Latin America opera singers will still tour the world in a number of anticipated productions and premieres this summer.

After having canceled the first three performances of Rossini "La Cenerentola" at the Met, the Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Florez returned triumphantly for the last three performances and even sang the HD transmission. However the tenor's summer season did not get off to a great start as he was forced to cancel Rossini's "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" at the Munich Opera because of laryngitis. The tenor is still slated to perform the July 30 performance with Kate Lindsey and Rodion Pogossov. While this may be exciting for fans, the tenor's later summer projects will be even more interesting. He will return to La Scala di Milano for a new production of his signature role "Le Comte Ory." The tenor has been acclaimed for the role all over the world, but this time he will sing a production by Laurent Pelly and will be accompanied by Aleksandra Kurzak and Jose Maria Lo Monaco. However the most exciting performances for the tenor will be at the Salzburg Festival. He will perform the role of Fernand in a concert performance of Donizetti's "La Favorite." The tenor will be accompanied by superstar mezzo soprano Elina Garanca and baritone Ludovic Tezier. Roberto Abbado is conducting the two performances that have been sold out for a number of weeks.

Placido Domingo also has a packed summer schedule. After having performed the role of Athanael in Massenet's "Thais" to great reviews, the legendary bari-tenor will continue strongly throughout beginning with a conducting gig at the Royal Opera House. Domingo will conduct Puccini's Tosca in Jonathan Kent's traditional production. In July he will be in Verona for one concert performance of Verdi's music and will then move to Salzburg for the festival. Domingo will perform in Max Reger's Requiem alongside the Argentine born conductor Daniel Barenboim. However, the most exciting production of his summer season will be at the festival in Verdi's "Il Trovatore." Domingo will reprise his role of Conte di Luna in a new production that will also feature superstar soprano Anna Netrebko and tenor Francesco Meli. The production will be conducted by Daniele Gatti, and it is likely to be recorded for video.

Meanwhile, Mexican tenor Rolando Villazon will continue his busy schedule, which will start in June. The tenor will perform the role of Ferrando in Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte" alongside Barenboim. The tenor will sing the role for the first time in a staged performance, and the event will also mark the first time he sings the role since the studio recording last year at Baden-Baden. Villazon will then return to Baden-Baden for Mozart's "Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail." The tenor will perform the role of Belmonte alongside the incomparable Diana Damrau, and it will be conducted by Canadian Yannick Nezet-Seguin. The performances will be recorded for a CD recording that will be released by Deutsche Grammophon. The tenor's summer will conclude with performance's of Mozart's "Il Re Pastore" in Verbier and later with performances at Salzburg and Berlin.

One of the busiest tenors of late is Mexican Javier Camarena. After having a huge breakout at the Met in "La Cenerentola," Camarena will reprise the role of Don Ramiro in Salzburg; Camarena will also sing the role alongside Cecilia Bartoli's Cenerentola at the June Whitsun Festival at Salzburg. The production will open in June and will later be revived for the August Salzburg Festival. The production will be directed by Damiano Michieletto and will conducted by Jean-Christophe Spinosi. Nicola Alaimo, Enzo Capuano and Ugo Guagliardo will round out the cast.

In June at the Santa Fe Opera, the great Puerto Rican Soprano Ana Maria Martinez will sing the role of Carmen in Bizet's opera of the same name. The soprano will be accompanied by Roberto De Biasio and Joyce El-Khoury. The soprano will also sing the role of Butterfly in Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" in Munich.

Meanwhile the great Mexican tenor Ramon Vargas will make a stop in his home country for performances of Rodolfo in Puccini's "La Boheme" and will also sing the role of Faust in Berlioz's "La Damnation de Faust" at the Verbier Festival.

Uruguayan Bass Baritone Erwin Schrott will also be busy over the summer with a highly anticipated run of Gounod's "Faust." Schrott will be joined by Charles Castronovo and rising star Sonya Yoncheva in the production, which will be directed by Bartlett Sher; Thomas Hengelbrock will conduct.
